Florence, Italy (21st May 2012)

Florence, one of my favourite places:)

We took the fast train from Rome to Florence (booked through Trenitalia). Arrived at the Santa Maria Novella Station (known as Firenze SMN) about 2.20pm.

We were a little lost because we didn't know where to buy the bus tickets. Finally found out that we need to purchase the tickets from the news stand.

The bus station is just outside the train station. Looking for bus number 14C to our hotel

Walking along the street looking for our hotel

Aha! Hotel Jane

Although the room looked dull, it was actually quite nice to stay. It was always quiet and peaceful outside, unlike Rome where could hear cars passing through at 1am in the morning.

After we've freshened up, we went down to the meet the receptionist. Lucia was really helpful; gave us directions and useful information about Florence. We could purchase our city bus tickets from the receptionist too. How convenient!

The best way to explore a new place is by walking....so we walked and walked....

The weather was lovely.

Passed by a cafe by the river

Almost going to rain at the other side of the river

Started to drizzle...
We were feeling hungry already (although we had Mc Donalds back in Rome). The walk from our hotel to town was about 15-20 minutes. We stopped by at some random shop to get food. There were lots of food to choose from. We shared a slice of pizza.

We arrived at Piazza della Signoria. It was raining...
Piazza della Signoria
There were many statues but I couldn't remember any of their description except for the famous ones.

Statue of Hercules and Caco

David by Michelangelo

Perseus and Medusa's decapitated head

Neptune Fountain
We then headed to the famous Florence Duomo.

The rain was getting heavier, and we had only one umbrella. Poor hubby had to cover himself with his jacket and let me use the umbrella. Finally, got so fed-up of the rain, we got this raincoat for 3 Euros. We saw many people getting raincoats from these Bangla sellers. Good business wei!

Yours truly in a raincoat..How do I look?

The last stop before heading back to the hotel was the Santa Croce church. I love this building. Looks so pretty!! Unfortunately we didn't enter the church because it costs about 6 Euros per person.

Church of Santa Croce  (Basilica di Santa Croce)
Ok, maybe this picture does not do justice to the beauty of the church, let me give you another one.

This was taken the next day in the afternoon, and the weather was perfect! Stay tune to my next post:)
