Koh Lipe: Getting there..

Our Koh Lipe trip was a last minute planned trip to celebrate our 3rd year wedding anniversary.
It took me 2 weeks to decide how to go, where to stay and where to eat.
There are 2 ways to go to Koh Lipe; one from Pak Bara pier in Satun and the other is from Telaga Harbour Langkawi. We chose the latter, since it's much faster although more costly.

Do note that the speedboat from Langkawi operates only during the high season from Nov-end of May. From June until October, Koh Lipe is only accessible from Pak Bara.

We booked the speedboat from Telaga Harbour to Koh Lipe via the Telaga Harbour website (http://telaga-terminal.com). It costed us RM 466 for a round trip, which last about 50 minutes.

We took the 9.30 am ride. There were only a few of us, a couple from Singapore, a family from Russia and another from France.

Thank God the journey was a smooth one and I did not encounter any motion sickness.

Almost arriving to Koh Lipe, we were all getting pretty excited.

To get to the island, we were all transferred to the long-tail boat operated by the Chao Lays (local people of Koh Lipe).

The immigration is located next to Bundhaya Resort. Visitors have to pay 20 baht (maybe 30 baht during high season?) each to enter Koh Lipe.

After getting our passports, we walked to our resort which is located at the near-end of Pattaya beach. Stay tuned for the upcoming posts:)

  1. Hi Emily, I'm planning to go to koh lipe this coming november. Just want to ask,
    1. do we have to pay extra for the transfer by the long tail boats?
    2. do we need to get advance visa to enter koh lipe?

Thank you so much for your time.

  2. Hi Kelly, you do not have to pay for the long-tail boat during the speedboat-long tail transfer upon arrival to Koh Lipe. The fee is included in the speedboat ride. This is if you take the speedboat from Telaga Harbour Langkawi. If you take the ferry from Pak Bara, I think you need to pay 50 Baht per person when you are transferred from the ferry to the long-tail upon arrival. As for the visa, if you are Malaysian, you only need to bring your passport. No visas needed.
Let me know if you have other questions:)

  3. Thank you so much for your reply. the only thing that i'm afraid is i will reach at langkawi airport at 830am and the ferry ride is at 930am, it will be very headache if i can't catch up the ferry. Airasia flight always has delay problems

  4. If you have not purchase your air tickets yet, may I suggest buy it a day earlier and spend one night in Langkawi? It is not so risky since flight tend to delay. From my experience, the ferry to Koh Lipe is quite punctual. If you miss the 9.30am, you will have to pay again for the 2.30pm boat. Not worth it.
