Santorini: Day 1 (14th May 2012)

After checking in and well rested, we made our way to Fira. As we walked along the street, we saw this really pretty and well-mantained building which was empty. Our guess was it's only open during summer.

This is the Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral in Fira. It was build in 1827 and then rebuild after a terrible earthquake in 1956.

An interesting sight..

Yours truly and the love of my life

We decided to walk all the way down instead of taking the cable car, or riding the donkeys.

Towards the old port. Noticed the cobbled steps? There are about 588 steps down to the port

See those cruise ships?

On the way down, we noticed that there was lots of donkey poop on the ground. It was smelly too. During part of the walk down, my shoe gave way, and I slipped and fell on my butt. Thank God that I did not land on the donkey poop. Yucks!

To get to the port, you can walk all the way down, or ride the donkey (for a fare of course!). But pity the donkeys:(

You can also take the cable car down/up, it's 4 Euro/person/ way

All the way down to the port...love the blue blue sea

We got some of our souvenirs here at the port. I found that the souvenir down here is cheaper than the ones at Fira town.

We took the cable car up and walk along the street until we came to this beautiful church.

Catholic Cathedral of St John the Baptist

Beautiful, no?
We left after taking some pictures and went to 'hunt' for dinner:)

Santorini Day 2 up next...
