Mutton Kurma with Chapati

For tonight's dinner we had mutton kurma with chapati. Earlier today, we got some fresh mutton from Tesco and after coming back, we marinated the meat for 2 hours and kept them in the fridge.

Ingredients:

3 cloves garlic - chopped finely
1 onion - chopped finely
1 tbsp ginger powder
1 star anise
1 clove
1 cinnamon stick
2 cardamoms
1 nutmeg - crushed
Mutton
1 US potato -chopped into large chunks and boiled
2 small sized carrots - chopped into large chunks and boiled
1 tomato - boiled and then cut into 4
1 cup yoghurt
4 tbsp kurma powder
1 tbsp lime juice
Salt and sugar to taste

Marinate:
1. Marinate mutton with kurma powder, lime juice and some water for 2 hours.

Method:
1. Pour some oil into a heated pot. Slowly add in the onion and saute until fragrant.
2. Add garlic and ginger powder and continue to saute.
3. Add in the the cinnamon, cardamoms and star anise.
4. Now put in the mutton and ensure that the mutton is evenly coated with the paste.
5. Pour in some water and continue stirring. Add in the nutmeg.
6. Bring to a boil.
7. Pour yogurt in and stir until mixture thicken.
8. Slow cook until meat is tender.

** If water is too little, you can add more. Adjust salt and sugar accordingly.

9. Once the meat is quite tender, add in (pre)boiled potatoes, carrots and tomato and continue simmering.
10. Serve hot with chapati or rice.

We had the kurma with chapati made from scratch by hubby. He seemed to have mastered the art of making chapati:)
